Spoiler: lots of them are from Brooklyn.
At the time of writing this – 1am on Sunday morning – a 23 year old professional footballer is critically ill in intensive care at the London Chest Hospital. With every passing hour there is tentative hope although I have also read reports this evening stating that only a small percentage of individuals who require such resuscitation survive. I am fearful of the worst and fully expect to wake tomorrow to the news that Fabrice Muamba – an England Under-21 captain, father to a young boy, and someone widely said to be one of the nicest guys in football – has died.
Great open letter to the Sun about how tasteless their coverage of the Fabrice Muamba story was.

I think it’s pretty fair to say that social media has changed the NFL offseason and made it much more interesting for the casual fan. Now, you can find out minute by minute who has signed with who and who is working out with who. Some teams are even tweeting photos of players signing fresh contracts, like the Lions, who tweeted a photo of Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson signing his record breaking $132million contract ($60mil of which is guaranteed!)
I think in part what this shows is the NFL’s willingness to embrace new technology. Something which is cannot be said of the other big sporting leagues around the world.
I’m just waiting for the inevitable twitter explosion that will come once Peyton Manning decides where he will be spending the next season of his career. My money is on either Miami or Tennessee.
It’s sad that Whitney Houston died. It really is. She was a really good singer but she did too much crack. Waaay to much crack. This version of ‘Dance with somebody’ is better than Whit’s in my opinion. Still, it’s a shame to see so much talent go to waste.

This article really made me think about a few things. I’m giving this some serious thought recently. It’d be interesting to see how it feels not to drink or be drunk for a while. partly because I’m not always a very nice person when I’m drunk. I’ve been drinking on nights out and going to the pub for maybe 3 or 4 years, so not drinking for a while is going to be strange, especially when I think about how much me and my friends drink on nights out. We’ll see how it goes I guess.
Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski: Lots of football intelligence, though no intelligence for anything else, plus the hands of a wideout and the body of a huge wideout. Sometimes misses blocks when he’s busy scoring a touchdown.

Every week, Tebow picks out someone who is suffering, or who is dying, or who is injured. He flies these people and their families to the Broncos game, rents them a car, puts them up in a nice hotel, buys them dinner (usually at a Dave & Buster’s), gets them and their families pregame passes, visits with them just before kickoff (!), gets them 30-yard-line tickets down low, visits with them after the game (sometimes for an hour), has them walk him to his car, and sends them off with a basket of gifts.
Home or road, win or lose, hero or goat.
Say what you will about Tebow but you don’t see many athletes doing this. Certainly nobody in the Premier League.
Interesting piece about a guy who tried to make a cheeseburger from scratch. Like, properly from scratch, making his own bread, raising his own live stock and growing all the vegetables.
“easily this year’s once-in-a-generation prospect”
Chiptune music is great. There is something compelling about combining vintage video games and music. Australian chiptune artist cTrix has taken the live performance of chiptune one step further. He put together what he calls the gAtari:
Normally when people perform chip music they are staring at a desk or a gameboy, this makes it more interesting I suppose.
Admittedly chip tunes aren’t for everyone but I love it.
Another good piece about how much better backpacks are than messenger style bags.
